What You Should Know Before You Start Every Competition
COMPETITION, is one thing, as mortal beings, we cannot but do. Thanks to Biology, competition is one of the characteristics of living things, so it's not as though it is a sin. But as a Christian, there are some things you ought to know while you are out there competing with others.
1. The aim of every competition is to win, to come out better than every other counterpart. As a matter of fact, some Christians now compete to oppress the losers so to speak. That is bad actually, and is in no way healthy. When you find yourself in a situation where you have to just compete, your aim should be to win, and not to oppress your counterparts. You should be able to be a team with your competitors at any point in time if need be, and not sworn enemies. It is the devil and his own who oppresses, and you are not one of his, are you?
2. When competing, let's say in a business environment, it should always be at the back of your mind that you are a Christian who lives to serve and to please God. So, while you are out there striving to come out better, remember God always, lest you displease Him 1Thessalonians 4:1.
3. Competing is not a sin (I stand to be corrected here though). Its brings out the best in you. Ok, see the case of Ester. Literally, it was a competition among several beautiful virgins, and she emerged the winner. But one very important personnel that was involved was God. God was actually in that competition with her. So, when you have no choice but to compete, make sure you involve God, and I'm sure He is going to give you ideas that would make you better than those whom you are competing with.
4. Always depend on God for strategies when competing. You know, Daniel and his fellows, right? What happened there was just a pure competition that by all means, they were sure to lose, but they won because God was their strategic idea. They knew God detested idolatry, so they used God's commandments to plan their strategies. What I'm saying in essence is, plot your strategy with the likes and not the dislikes of God. E.g. Thou shalt not kill, so your strategy must involve giving life.
5.There always would be one winner. Besides, wining is not a do or die affair, and you can always try again. Also, you won't win all the time, but when there's life, there is hope.
However, we should be able to recognize what is worth competing for, and when to back off, and just step aside and let things take its course naturally. Moreover, as far as destiny is concerned, it is each man to his own path. So if you are sure to be on the right path of your destiny, without you competing, things are sure to work for you. But if, they are not at the moment, just remember that there is no gain without pain, and your time to win is very near.
In conclusion, compete with God involved, and accept your gain or loss as one of those things that has to happen for your glory to be revealed, Romans 8:18. Shalom.
