Being Independent From Sin

Nigeria celebrates her 55th independence day anniversary today, God bless my country, and yours too :-).

Independence as we all know is all about freedom, becoming a free person and under no obligation to a particular thing or person as in slavery. Jesus came to give us independence which didn't happen for everybody, but just for as many that would believe in Him. For those of us who have been set free by Jesus, we are no longer the obligation to satisfy our sinful nature, that's quite clear.

However, you are a slave to whatever you allow control you, the old man was a slave to sin, because he was controlled by sin. When you are independent, you are independent, I mean, you are no longer under the authority you once were. If truly, you have received freedom from sin, your flesh should in no way control you anymore.

But if you again give in to the flesh, and sin against God, you are actually subjecting yourself under slavery to sin, thereby making yourself a slave to what you have already been set free from. By doing that, you are making the work of Jesus Christ on the cross of calvary in vain. It means you are telling God he shouldn't have given you that freedom in the first place.

In a simply tone, make a good use of the freedom God has already freely given to you, and do not put yourself under the rule of flesh and sin again. I ask you today, are you independent from sin, or have gone back to being the slave of sin that you used to be?
Shalom.
