Top 5 Things To Do When Grief Overwhelms You
99.9% Christians will agree with me that the feeling of grief is inevitable, am I right? The thing is, we're are not of this world, but we are in it, and as a result we are left with no choice than to share in the problems of the world. Well, the joy we have is that Jesus has already overcome the world for us. Therefore, I've come up with this list through God Himself, to help us in our times of grief and sadness.
1. SING HYMNS. Hymns are songs Heaven actually credits. When you sing hymns, there's just this awareness of the presence of the Almighty God that you feel, and it definitely would help your mood. Singing hymns lifts the spirit, and of course gives a speedy recovery from the feeling of grief.
2. READ PSALMS. Most of the Psalms when written by David were in the times he was distressed and sad. So, Psalms help you communicate your mind exactly to God, and asides that, it also gives you comfort through the promises and assurance David had in God. Please, make an habit of reading the book of Psalms.
3. PRAY. The benefits of prayer cannot be overemphasized. Prayer is a means of communicating with God. Imagine it this way, you have a little child who is sad and grieved because she was bullied by those who are stronger than her. You then keep asking the child what is wrong, why she is sad, and what she wants you to do to help, but instead, she had refused to talk to you because she is too sad, and neither would she tell you exactly what she wants. Tell me, won't you as a person be thou frustrated? How much God? Make talking to God something you just cannot do without. Tell Him how you feel and ask Him exactly what you want. He is your father, go talk to Him.
4. REFLECT ON THAT ISSUE. Let's see, something actually causes the feeling of grief. It could be because we lost a loved one, or have a sick family member, lost a job, lost a pregnancy, failed an exam, going through a divorce, actually, the list is endless. But, in spite the grief we may feel, reflecting on one's problem is actually a good idea. So now, after singing hymnals, reading Psalms, and praying, we also should see our problem in an entirely different light. I'm sure after praying, God would have given more insight into that problem and showed us which way to go.
5. THANK GOD. Yup! The bible says in all things give thanks. I intentionally made this the fifth, because in all sincerity of it, thanking God is the last the on the mind of a person who is grieved. But, in all of our affairs and trials, let us remember to always thank God in all situation, Colossians 6:16-18. I hope I have passed a message across to somebody today....
Shalom.
