Laziness; Old Man Or New Man?

"But the master replied, 'You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn't plant and gathered crops I didn't cultivate, why didn't you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it", Matthew 25:26-27 NLT.

Technically, everybody is guilty of being lazy at one point or the other. At some point in my life while growing up, my mum sort of nicknamed me lazy, "ole" in Yoruba language, because, there was hardly anything I did without being lazy about it. Proverbs 26:15 NLT says "Lazy people take food in their hand but don't even lift it to their mouth". As funny as that could be, it is very true, like, I'm a practical example. Before now, I used to declare hunger strike(s) for myself because I was too lazy to cook. Interestingly whenever my mum forces me to do the cooking whether I wanted to eat or not, out of shame, I'd rather I continued with the hunger strike than even eat the food I had cooked (I couldn't afford to hear someone tell me, 'but you said you weren't hungry'). Really, my laziness then was terrible, and I'm very sure there are some people like me who are reading this right now.

Fast forward to after meeting Jesus, really, do you think one can still continue being lazy in Christ? I doubt. I'm still a practical example here :-). My fellowship in the school I attend at the moment is well cultured in love, as in, brothers love brothers, sisters love sisters, etc. As a result, anyone, I mean anyone, can just come into your room and request food or any other thing. It felt shameful and sad for me if a sister is hungry and because of my laziness I offered her nothing. For that reason and others (I didn't want to chase away potential suitors, lol), I changed, I learned to love cooking and stopped being lazy about it.

Now, this is just an example, there are several ways as to which one can be lazy. Sincerely, laziness is bad, and it is something that can totally control a man. Remember yesterday, we said, or rather the bible says, you are a slave to whatever controls you (Romans 6:16). Asides that, telling from the introductory text, God doesn't like lazy people, not at all. After meeting Jesus, you just cannot afford to be lazy. There are lots of things to explore in Christ, and if you are lazy, I'm afraid you are gonna have to remain stagnant. Moreover, how will God commit wealth, kingdom assignments, and even Himself to you if you still find it extremely difficult to read your bible everyday, let alone pray? I learned to subdue and overcome my laziness, you can too.

A word is enough for the wise, prayerfully, and willfully, stop being lazy, ok? Shalom.
