Secular Movies? Are you for real?
Somehow, I told a friend about a movie I saw, and at the same time, also recommended the movie to him. Much to my surprise he said, "So Christians are not allowed to listen to secular music, how come no one is talking about the secular movies?"
Hello everyone, hope we have been good? When he, (my friend above) accused me of watching and promoting secular movies, I actually found it very difficult to express myself, that was like the first time I'd hear such a thing as "secular movies", seriously?
Now here is the deal, a lot of us go to the movies, stream movies online, watch them on DVD, without seeing much of a big deal in them, but actually, there are big deals!
Well, plainly speaking, there is nothing wrong in seeing a movie, however, as Christians, we have to be mindful of the kind of movies we see. The cliche, "What would Jesus do?" is the absolute answer when situations like this arises.
Ephesians 5:1-2 "Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God."
For instance, when you have a choice to see "fifty shades of grey" or "Spartacus", your response ought to be determined by what Jesus would do. Of course, Jesus wouldn't sign up for a sexually depicted movie. I know what you may be thinking right now, being a Christian is much more demanding than you thought, yep, that's living like Christ for you. The moment you gave your life to Christ was the moment you signed off your rights to owning yourself, Jesus owns you, so your life should be in subjection to His will for you.
Galatians 2:20 NIV "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.".
Now, about the movies, I don't even have a personal testimony as such that would have helped this post very much, but then, I believe, if this weren't necessary, the Holy Spirit wouldn't have laid it in my heart to write on it.
Let's just say, this is an introduction to Christians and secular movies. I'd make my research, pray, and write some more on this topic. Trust me, I'm as dazed as you are. Shalom.
