Hey! That's My Window Seat!!!

I was in a public bus earlier in this week, and something I didn't quite appreciate happened.

I got in an argument with some guy over a seat in the bus, you know, I wanted the window seat, he wanted it too! I mean, what kinda guy fights with a lady over a window seat, huh? Anyways, I had no choice but to let it go, although very disappointing, because he had started to raise his voice at me, really???

Courtesy actually demanded that he let the lady have it her way, and he behaved like a proper gentle man. To further worsen the matter, I had a feeling he was a Christian, because, he didn't join the other commuters in chanting the Islamic verses as they prayed. I realized we were the only ones mute in the bus, possibly the only Christians there, couldn't even imagine what the Muslims there must have thought of the both of us.

So, what exactly went wrong with the both of us? We both claimed to be right, no one apologized to the other, and we got busy with our phones and books, what a situation!

Well, you really do not want to know what happened in the end...

Now let's see it this way, there are times when those we meet in our day to day lives appear seemingly annoying, what are we to do at those moments? Do we just plug in our earphone and totally shut them out? Well, no, we are Christians, and we should behave like Christ.

The solution simply is to ask oneself, "what would Jesus do in this situation?" Would Jesus fight over a window seat? Would Jesus curse a driver who had just splashed mud water over him? Of course no, Jesus would instead respond to them in love.

King James Bible "And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these." Mark 12:31

You love God when you love your neighbor irrespective of how annoying they may be towards you. Now, when someone behaves in a manner unacceptable by you, and you do not respond in love, remember that you are disobeying God's word.

Personally, I have also learned here, that day, I didn't say not even a single vowel to my neighbor throughout a 6 hour journey, yea, that's very bad, I know.

Dear LORD, we your children are indeed sorry for the various sinful ways in which we have responded to those that have annoyed us, we repent of such cold attitudes. And Father, we ask today for the grace to always respond in love to our neighbors, whether they deserve it or not, Amen.

So, the next time someone takes over your cherished window seat, just smile, and say "it's ok, you can have it, God bless you". Hey!!! Do not be sarcastic tho...

At worst, just remember the sound of the trumpet. You wouldn't want to miss heaven because of something very silly, would you?
Shalom.
