"Me-Time" With God
Yuppie! I'm done with my exams for this semester, so, "What Next After Meeting Jesus" has actively resumed.
Now, straight to business, I'm gonna ask you a question. How often do you go on a personal retreat? I mean, how often do you declare some "alone time" with God? By definition, retreat is the act or process of moving back or away, especially from something hazardous, formidable, or unpleasant: made a retreat from hectic city life to the country." (Credit: thefreedictionary.com).
Retreat in this context is, moving away from your normal schedule, to having some quiet moments with the LORD, alone. As a matter of fact, you actually are owing God your time. All those days that you have failed to pray, times when you skipped and missed your devotion, don't you think you owe God? I think I owe God anyways.
A timely retreat compensates for those lost moments, it makes God see your love for Him, and it makes Him tell you those things He's been waiting to tell you. For instance, a burning coal that doesn't get fueled up by adding more coal would eventually burn out, so also are you.
Having a personal retreat would take you out of your worry, your office, your lecture all, and straight to the presence of the LORD. For those of us who are still thinking, "where is retreat in the Bible?"
Well, John 6:15 "When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped into the hills to be by himself."
Matthew 14:22 "Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone."
The benefits of going on personal retreats cannot be overemphasized. You get to finally have some "me time" with your Father, and surely, God has always been there waiting for you to come.
James 4:8a "Come close to God and God will come close to you." Now, dear Christian, what are you waiting for? Go mark a date with our Father on your calendar!
Shalom.
