5 Ways To Dress To Please God And Be Presentable
The issue of dressing has always been an issue to young people, especially the female gender. Young people keep experimenting (though unconsciously) with different types of clothing until they are matured enough to know the kind that perfectly describes who they are. During this process of experimenting, a lot of teenagers and young people tend to make mistakes that could be irreversible. While some are lucky to have parents or guardians who pick out better clothes for them, some just have to keep trying different things on. And for some us whom grace has found, but still find it challenging to dress righteously, here is a piece for us. Below are some important things to look out for when picking out a dress as a Christian brother or sister.
1. GOD IS INTERESTED IN COVERING OUR NAKEDNESS. From the beginning, God has been actively interested in covering man's nakedness, which explains why He provided clothing for Adam and Eve after they became aware of their nakedness (Gen 3:21) So, involve God anytime you are about purchasing or putting on a wear. Note the word 'nakedness'. There are some types of clothes that sincerely do not cover one's nakedness, and we know them. As a Christian lady, your chest (you know what I'm saying) should in no way be naked or half naked, whichever ways. In the days of Abraham, men and women wore clothes that exposed only their face and hand. Yes, God knows this is 21st century and you don't need to tell him that, but that doesn't mean you should expose sensitive parts of your body. Guys, we don't need to see your biceps, triceps, and your 0-6 packs. Keep covered what is supposed to be covered!
2. GOD WANTS US TO WEAR QUALITY THINGS. Yea, you saw that right. Quality in this sense doesn't mean you should go overboard to get what you normally cannot afford. Quality here for instance is, Adam and Eve covered themselves with leaves, but God gave them animal skin instead (Gen 3:21). Animal skin was better at covering them up, because the leaves could have easily withered, or gotten blown away or something. So quality here is getting what can better cover your nakedness, not something that at the feel of breeze would reveal something (oops!). Imagine, some ladies wear short and skimpy skirts and they keep fighting and struggling with the wind when they are outside, that's quite embarrassing you know (lol, God help me, I'm also guilty here).
3. DRESS TO KILL. Contrary to the popular opinion of dressing to fit and not to kill, God the Holy Spirit says "dress to kill". But in what way? You should learn to dress to kill the flesh that might want you to sin or cause another fellow to sin (Colossians 3:5). When you remember to dress to kill that thing that's asking you to lay emphasis on your 'curves' or 'eggplant' as the case may be, you are on your way to pleasing God. From today, start dressing to subdue the spirit that may want you to display your God given attributes which are meant for your (future) spouse only, and I hope I'm talking to someone who is no longer in an ungodly relationship, if not please read here. Well, I don't mean you should start wearing extra large clothes or baggy wears, no, put on clothes that are your size.
4. LEARN TO MAKE SACRIFICES FOR YOUR WEARS. For example, I'm quite gifted chest-wise (you know what I'm saying), and most shirts made for my body size don't button up, thus laying a major emphasis up here. Its really challenging and difficult to find what is exactly my size. But because I need not make another brethren fall into sin due to my physique, I opt for a bigger size that can button up, and then if need be, adjust the body a little. In other words, you should be able to make sacrifices to dress to please God. And also remember what the bible says about those who make other brethren fall into sin (1Corinthians 8:13). Do not because you don't easily get clothes that are perfectly your size settle for less. Don't let the devil use you as an instrument of fornication and destruction (Romans 6:16). If the devil can use Judas who ate and walked with Jesus Christ, how much more we? So let us be careful to always dress to please God.
5. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DRESS MISERABLY TO PLEASE GOD. This is for the extremist. Common, you don't have to look miserable because you are a Christian. Don't be like the Pharisees who strictly enforce doctrines upon themselves, yet, their ways were not pleasing unto God (Matthew 23:25). Wear clothes that glorifies God, not that which would make God appear unjust or poor. But on the other hand, the Bible says if your right eye would make you sin, then pluck it out (Matthew 5:29). So if dressing normally would make you sin, then go on wearing your 'extremized' wears. The whole idea is to dress to make God happy with you. Wear clothes that show you truly in your heart glorify and reverence God, because, by their fruits, ye shall know them (Matthew 7:16).
Let your dress tell who you are. Shalom
