How Are We Sure That We Know God?

"And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." 1John 2:3-4.

Ok, so that's just simply how you confirm if you know God. I've heard some young guys ask, "You claim you are God's child, but how do you know if you know God?", "I'm born again, but I am not yet sure if I know I know God", etc. I also asked some older Christians those kind of questions too sometimes ago, like "How do you know that you know God? Is it that you just know it within that you know God, or that you just assume you know God". Well, here is the answer in 1st John 2:3-4 above. You are sure that you know God if you keep His commandments. And what are His commandments? Loving one another (1st John 2:7-14). It is that simple. So, if you are still not sure if you know God, or if you are in doubts of what His commandments really are, please read 1John 2:7-14 to verify. Though, we are not under the law, there are still obligations for us to live righteously and godly.

Moreover, knowing God takes more than a lifetime, that is, no one, except Jesus Christ who knows all of God, and those who He chooses to reveal Himself to (Matthew 11:22). We learn to know more of Him every time, more reason why it is crucial to read one's bible regularly, because that is the only manual we have to read about God. Have you cross checked and you realized you don't even know Him at all? Start a personal process of knowing Him from now, and you can be sure He would reveal Himself unto you. You may have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord, and Savior, fine, but you shouldn't just stop at that because it is not enough.

Learn of Him, read of Him, attend your fellowship or church services, midweek programs, be actively interested and partake in forums designed for believers to learn of God. Let God see your hunger and desire to know Him, and He will reveal Himself to you. May God grant us all the grace to know more of Him in Jesus name.
Shalom
