God Didn't Move, You Did!

Image
I'm so sorry for going on a two days break, I'm actually going through a transition, I told you guys about the issue of accommodation with my school right? So, I've been working on moving from an on campus hostel to an off campus house, it hasn't been stress free, but God has been involved. There are just times that we don't feel God, or better put, we feel faraway from God, and it makes us wonder what could be happening. The actuality of it is that God didn't move, you did. But even if at all God did move, it is because of your sin, you know His eyes cannot behold iniquity and stuff. But here, I'm talking to someone who has triumphed over sin. I'm talking to a real Christian whom by default is a true worshiper of God . So, what is the solution when you feel distant from God which is of course not as a result of sin. First of all, you need to accept the fact that it was you who moved, and not God, therefore you are also the one who needs to take t...

There Is Time For Everything

Image
The book of Ecclesiastes is a book I've come to fall in love with over time, and I call it my "Refuge Book". Actually Ecclesiastes is a book that was written by someone who has wealth, I mean W-E-A-L-T-H. So, for a wealthy man to say "there is time for everything", then indeed, there is time for everything, Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. In the real sense of life, there are so many times that we might wonder why we weren't some other persons or why we were born into the family we presently find ourselves. Earlier in my 'teenagehood', I wanted to be so many people all at the same time. I wanted to be a model, an actress, a dancer, a journalist, a newscaster, a TV presenter or to feature in a TV commercial, a lawyer, and an oil and gas exporter, lol. I'm sure it wasn't just me, almost every teenager goes through that phase. Then later, my wish moved on to being President Barrack Obama's daughter, or any other highly respectable dignitary's da...

7 Private Places You Can Pray

Image
One of the advantages of being a child of God is that you can talk to God just about anywhere and at anytime. Majority of us complain about the lack of privacy we have to pray, hence the reason for this list. Ephesians 6:18. 1. IN THE LOO. For those wondering what loo is, the loo is the toilet where you do that thing, lol. What privacy do u need again when you are alone in there, so whenever you have your stomach dragging you to the loo, remember to spend that 5 to 30mins praying. NB: For your hygiene, I advice you pray with your mind open, and not your mouth. 2. IN THE CLASSROOM. Although the privacy here is not maximally guaranteed, you can still get some few minutes to talk to God. If you can pray about a few minutes before your exam starts, then you should be able to even when exams are not near. Don't pray in class only when you have your exam question papers staring at you. 3. IN YOUR ROOM. Well, this might not be applicable to everyone, especially for those who sha...

Top 5 Things To Do When Grief Overwhelms You

Image
99.9% Christians will agree with me that the feeling of grief is inevitable, am I right? The thing is, we're are not of this world, but we are in it, and as a result we are left with no choice than to share in the problems of the world. Well, the joy we have is that Jesus has already overcome the world for us. Therefore, I've come up with this list through God Himself, to help us in our times of grief and sadness. 1. SING HYMNS. Hymns are songs Heaven actually credits. When you sing hymns, there's just this awareness of the presence of the Almighty God that you feel, and it definitely would help your mood. Singing hymns lifts the spirit, and of course gives a speedy recovery from the feeling of grief. 2. READ PSALMS. Most of the Psalms when written by David were in the times he was distressed and sad. So, Psalms help you communicate your mind exactly to God, and asides that, it also gives you comfort through the promises and assurance David had in God. Please, make ...

What Is Your Major, Assets Or Access?

I was in fellowship tonight and the Preacher posed a question on assets and access. Now, I'm going to be paraphrasing the same question to us. Is our major to get assets from God, and our minor to access His presence? Actually, majority of us have forgotten that the reason why we are Christians is to know and serve God, but instead, we use Christianity to gain fame and fortune. The bible clearly said we should seek ye first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness, and all other things shall be added unto us, Matthew 6:33. Most a times, we only know this scripture in our hearts but out actions are the exact opposite. I'm sorry God isn't looking for gold diggers, nope! rather He is looking for a man to fill with His presence. Besides, the presence of God in a man's life is more than enough to satisfy a man far beyond what assets can give. The bible also says that if all we ever gain by being Christians is just for this life, then we are most miserable of all people, ...

Where Is God When We Get Disappointed?

Greetings to everyone. I'm sorry I couldn't post anything yesterday, I had a little challenge which shook me to the marrow, and I don't mind sharing it with you. The post title has summarized the whole idea, but I'd still go into details so you can learn from it. First of all, I love my dear country Nigeria, though we have lots of problems we're dealing with. However, due to the fact that we're a growing overpopulated nation, our academic institutions have several lapses in the basic infrastructures. So, here is it, my school (I'm sorry, I wouldn't like to mention the name due to some ethical reasons), ok, my school has problems with accommodation, I mean hostel accommodation, so like 15 students have to compete for just one bed space, you can imagine. Well, somehow I didn't get one. Actually, that wasn't what shook me, it was the fact that I knew I had God on my side and I still couldn't get what I was of a truth entitled to. So do you get...

5 Steps To Effectively Manage Your Time

Time has always been an issue to many including myself, in such a way that we often complained of how insufficient 24hours in a day is. You see, actually, God knows that 24hours is more than enough for every man each day. We are the ones who fail to effectively take charge of the time, instead it is the time that has taken charge of us. Well, below are 5 steps the Holy Spirit wants us to take in order to have a very productive day. 1. SET UP YOUR PRIORITIES. In a day, there are so many activities lined up for you, but it is not everything you have to do. For each day, try to draw your scale of preference with the Holy Spirit as your guide, with your pen and paper in hand, don't just scribble it in your mind, trust me you would end up wasting 24hours over nothing. Doing so many things would make you really spent, and only when you are so tired and sleepy would you remember you didn't even spend time with God that day. 2. YOU ARE A SLAVE TO ANYTHING YOU LET CONTROL YOU. Roman...

9 Traits Of Pride You Never Thought You Had

Image
Pride, according to NLT Bible dictionary is inordinate self-esteem or treatment of others. Pride is one of the works of the flesh according to Galatians 5:19-20. I agree with you that you are not proud, but you would be surprised to see you still have some elements of pride in you as you read on. I've tried to make this as personal possible to everyone. So, mind the pronoun 'I' used. 1. Pride is when I think of myself more important than others. I feel like I'm better than everyone else, therefore I should be the centre of attraction everywhere I go.  2. I have pride if taking corrections from others is, even to the barest minimum, an issue to me. 3. I have pride if everything I ever want to be everywhere I go is the first. 4. I have pride if I feel disrespected whenever someone doesn't call me by my title(s). 5. I have pride if I have to do things my way only, and not care what the opinion of others might be. 6. I have pride if I feel uncomfortable w...

What God Thinks Of Quitters

Image
One thing I've discovered about God is that, He admires those who do not quit, I mean those who never give up on their faith. God walks with those who never give up on Him, and He deletes the quitters. For example, in 1Kings 19:4, Prophet Elijah chose to quit on God, and God deleted Him, like God chose someone else to continue with the journey of walking with Him. So, this is for you that want to quit on God. See, even if your faith is as little as a mustard seed, God will make do with it, rather than you quit and throw away the little faith you have. In due course, he would reward your faith. Moreover, the bible says that without faith, it is impossible to please God, please, how do you intend pleasing Him if you are a quitter? Abraham never gave up on God, neither did Hannah. Instances to quit would always show forth itself, but it is up to you to hold on to faith, and keep going. Personally, I've had several situations when I felt like quitting, and everyday, I still...

4 Must Know When You Ask And Receive Not

Image
Clearly, the Lord says that whatever we ask in His Name, we will receive, but most a times, we fail to receive some of the things that we ask for. As a result, we tend to question the Lord's credibility. Here is a top "must know" before you start to question God who is innocent, just, and righteous. 1. James 4:3 NLT "And even when you ask, you don't get it because your motives are all wrong - you want only what will give you pleasure". So, have you questioned your motive? 2. Luke 11:9 NLT "And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened". How frequently have you been talking to God on that which you are seeking? Hannah met God after several attempts at Shiloh- 1Samuel 1 3.Habakkuk 2:3 NLT "This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will sur...

Stirring Up Love At The Wrong Time

Image
"Do not awaken love until the time is right" Song of Songs 2:7b NLT. The Song of Songs is well known for its epic romance tale, and may I remind you that Song of Songs is in the Bible, yup, just before the book of Isaiah. In a way, God is not against romance, He supports it. In fact God Himself is love, and He commanded us to love one another (Mark 12:31). Critically studying the Song of Songs, it's obvious that the lady and the man were not married, and that explains why she asked the young women of Jerusalem to promise never to awaken love until the time is right. Love is a beautiful thing, but it is also a passion that consumes. Imagine, even God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16). So, love is actually, not a child's play, it is for matured minds only. As a young man or lady, please, I'm also asking you, to promise not to awaken love until the time is right. You see, love stirs up a passion in you that if not careful, would...

What You Should Know Before You Start Every Competition

COMPETITION, is one thing, as mortal beings, we cannot but do. Thanks to Biology, competition is one of the characteristics of living things, so it's not as though it is a sin. But as a Christian, there are some things you ought to know while you are out there competing with others. 1. The aim of every competition is to win, to come out better than every other counterpart. As a matter of fact, some Christians now compete to oppress the losers so to speak. That is bad actually, and is in no way healthy. When you find yourself in a situation where you have to just compete, your aim should be to win, and not to oppress your counterparts. You should be able to be a team with your competitors at any point in time if need be, and not sworn enemies. It is the devil and his own who oppresses, and you are not one of his, are you? 2. When competing, let's say in a business environment, it should always be at the back of your mind that you are a Christian who lives to serve and to ple...

The Golden Rule

As a matter of fact, the golden rule is to love one another (Matthew 7:12). But it's surprising to still find out that even among we Christians, there is no love par say. By nature, we are quick to judge another person even without thinking. We are quick to conclude "Oh I'm better than him/her", which by all means is wrong. The bible says "Judge not so you won't be judged" Matthew 7:1. Here are the things we should remember before we mentally judge another fellow. 1. Remember that, behind every person you feel is proud or not polite to you are some big life challenges. Such a person might be facing or have gone through certain things that has made him or her the way you see him. So do not by default hate on someone because he/she doesn't greet you. 2. Remember that, mocking your neighbor to make yourself feel better is not good enough. Do not rejoice at your neighbors shortcomings, because tomorrow may be your turn. Besides, we all have differe...

What Makes Your Sexual Desire Sinful

Though we have been set free from the power of sin, we are still very much capable of committing sin. Sexual sin is one of the worst sin ever, even the bible describes it as worse. The bible says it is a sin committed to oneself, and exclusively at length warned us against sexual immorality (1Corinthians 6:18). Having sexual desires is in fact natural, and it has been put there in the first place by God (Genesis 2:18). What makes it sinful is what we choose to do about it, just as what you choose to do with a gun determines whether you are going to commit an offense or not. We ourselves know when our sexual desire becomes sin, but for the benefit of doubt, please read on. A. Your sexual desire becomes sinful when you fantasize having sex already. For instance, you see a guy or a lady whether attractive or not, and you go ahead imagining that person in bed with you. Or when you begin to imagine what is underneath that person's garment for the aim of deriving pleasure. The other pe...

Things You Often Forget To Thank God For

As mortal beings, though born again, we are always going to need many things so long we're still alive and Jesus tarry. Certainly, all we can do better is to ask and ask and ask, making God bored, and not even remembering to thank Him for those things that may seem insignificant. Below are just few are those things I bet you haven't thanked Him for today. 1. THE AIR YOU BREATHE. Very few people acknowledge the fact that the air is not their basic fundamental human right, it's God's gift to the living. Or do the dead make use of it? I doubt. 2. THAT YOU ARE ALIVE. Fine, many of us still remember to thank God for life, but do we do it on our own, and not just when a sermon is preached, or when we witness a very gory accident. 3. FOR NOT BEING NAKED. Every time we envy/admire nice clothes, we window shop in boutiques, and complain about our out of vogue wears, forgetting that we are not naked even at the moment. Don't you think God deserves an apology for not tha...

10 Reasons Why You Should Quit Seculars

Yesterday, I made a post on 'the battle with secular music', and really I've received quite a few queries based on it. Someone even asked me how I know the names of secular musicians if I don't listen to them. Well, all I can say is, the Spirit of God in me won't let me agree with secular music. Through the Holy Spirit, I compiled these 10 reasons why seculars aren't a wise choice for you as someone who is seeking to grow in the faith. 1. First and foremost, would Jesus listen to seculars? Or would He encourage you to have them on your mobile devices? The answer is NO.  2. You are an ambassador of Christ, so do the things that show you are an ambassador and not just an hypocrite, Colossians 3:17. 3. Secular music in no way preach Christ, and if there be anyone that does, check if it is doing so for the principal aim of spreading the gospel, and not just some publicity stunt. 4. Seculars are worldly. We are in the world but not OF the world, John 17:16. ...

The Battle With Secular Music

"I'm only interested in the beat of this song, that's all, when I'm done listening to it I would delete it". Is that sounding familiar to you?.....  There are various genre of music, but they all fall into just two classifications as far this teaching is concerned, that is, either secular or gospel. As the word 'gospel' implies, 'good news about Christ', gospel music preaches Christ. The fact that the name 'God' is mentioned in a song doesn't make it gospel, not at all. The content or message of a song has to be tested to prove it is gospel. Many of we young people are more interested in songs with all the beats, the happening songs, or the fast songs so to speak. But as Christians who are walking in the image of Christ, our interest should not be in the secular music industry. Instead, we should continually listen to songs that remind us of our Heavenly Father. I hear some Christians say "I don't really listen to secular ...

5 Ways To Dress To Please God And Be Presentable

The issue of dressing has always been an issue to young people, especially the female gender. Young people keep experimenting (though unconsciously) with different types of clothing until they are matured enough to know the kind that perfectly describes who they are. During this process of experimenting, a lot of teenagers and young people tend to make mistakes that could be irreversible. While some are lucky to have parents or guardians who pick out better clothes for them, some just have to keep trying different things on. And for some us whom grace has found, but still find it challenging to dress righteously, here is a piece for us. Below are some important things to look out for when picking out a dress as a Christian brother or sister.  1. GOD IS INTERESTED IN COVERING OUR NAKEDNESS. From the beginning, God has been actively interested in covering man's nakedness, which explains why He provided clothing for Adam and Eve after they became aware of their nakedness (Gen 3:21) ...

Watch Out!!!

For the next couple of weeks, the Holy Spirit would be taking us through series of teaching on vitals that bother young Christians, but are often overlooked and ignored. Through these series, I pray our deep concerns would be met in Jesus name. So let's key into these teachings and allow God renew our minds to be more and more like him at all times.

Is The Best Of Your Time For God Or Self?

Generally, when we hear about giving one's best to God, we most likely think money. This is a misconception, as money is just a little bit of what you can give to God. For instance, you can give God your time. But then, the best of your time is not a function of the duration, rather it is the quality. The best of your time is not when you are muzzled up with several activities, nor when you are less to concentrate on God, but instead, the best of your time is when your mind is settled, that is, when you are more likely to concentrate on God. Many Christians try to just hurry and patch things up with God so that they can at least feel justified, forgetting that God is never in a hurry, and neither can anybody hurry Him up. Besides, He is a God of protocols, He is principled and disciplined, so He expects the same from us. God deserves the best of our everything, again, it's not a function of number, see the story of the widow that gave above everyone else (Luke 21:1-4). As a...

Nothing Comes As A Shock To God

"History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, 'Here is something new!' But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new. We don't remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now." Ecclesiastes 1:9-11 NLT. Many a times, we tend to believe that we alone are in whatever situation we are facing or going through, which is wrong. In fact, there are several others who have gone through the same thing in the past, there are thousands of people who are also currently going through it with you, and there are also so many who would still go through it in the future. So you see, there's really nothing new under the sun. When you are about giving up, tell that problem there is nothing new under the sun; when you all you can do is cry and be sad, tell yourself there is nothing new under the sun, and move on with your life. Always remember t...

What You Can Do When Trouble Comes Your Way

In this world, troubles, issues, and affairs of life are inevitable. In one's lifetime, no matter the financial status, or believe, problems are part of one's journey through life. Whether Christian or non christian, challenges are a must. But for the Christian, there is hope in the greatest One. The way a Christian faces a challenge is quite different from the unbeliever's. An unbeliever could get frustrated and decide to commit suicide, but a Christian already knows that, taking one's life is a sin, and it would land him in hell fire. Definitely, as Christians, we can't think suicide talk more doing it, we can't make use of the sinful solution the world may offer, we also cannot just magically make our problems disappear, so what can we do? For a Christian, who of course pleases God, but is in trouble, and is already or almost doubting God's credibility, what should he do to save himself? "Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are ...

How Are We Sure That We Know God?

"And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." 1John 2:3-4. Ok, so that's just simply how you confirm if you know God. I've heard some young guys ask, "You claim you are God's child, but how do you know if you know God?", "I'm born again, but I am not yet sure if I know I know God", etc. I also asked some older Christians those kind of questions too sometimes ago, like "How do you know that you know God? Is it that you just know it within that you know God, or that you just assume you know God". Well, here is the answer in 1st John 2:3-4 above. You are sure that you know God if you keep His commandments. And what are His commandments? Loving one another (1st John 2:7-14). It is that simple. So, if you are still not sure if you know God, or if you are in doubts of what His commandments really are, please r...

Christians, Wine, and Alcohol

"What sorrow for those who get up early in the morning looking for a drink of alcohol and spend long evenings drinking wine to make themselves flaming drunk. They furnish wine and lovely music at their grand parties- lyre and harp, tambourine and flute- but they never think about the LORD or notice what He is doing." Isaiah 5:11-12 NLT. I have come across several Christians who believe alcohol is bad and they don't consume it at all. While this is okay, a good number of them are just staying sans alcohol ignorantly. Christians are people who are Christ like, and wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes or other fruits (google). Apart from the health risks associated with the frequent consumption of alcohol, many Christians don't know why the true Church stands against it. Have you ever wondered why Jesus turned water to wine, thereby kind of encouraging alcohol consumption? Actually alcohol in itself isn't a bad idea, but, what makes it bad, at l...

Laziness; Old Man Or New Man?

"But the master replied, 'You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn't plant and gathered crops I didn't cultivate, why didn't you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it", Matthew 25:26-27 NLT. Technically, everybody is guilty of being lazy at one point or the other. At some point in my life while growing up, my mum sort of nicknamed me lazy, "ole" in Yoruba language, because, there was hardly anything I did without being lazy about it. Proverbs 26:15 NLT says "Lazy people take food in their hand but don't even lift it to their mouth". As funny as that could be, it is very true, like, I'm a practical example. Before now, I used to declare hunger strike(s) for myself because I was too lazy to cook. Interestingly whenever my mum forces me to do the cooking whether I wanted to eat or not, out of shame, I'd rather I continued with the hunger strike than even eat the fo...

Being Independent From Sin

Nigeria celebrates her 55th independence day anniversary today, God bless my country, and yours too :-). Independence as we all know is all about freedom, becoming a free person and under no obligation to a particular thing or person as in slavery. Jesus came to give us independence which didn't happen for everybody, but just for as many that would believe in Him. For those of us who have been set free by Jesus, we are no longer the obligation to satisfy our sinful nature, that's quite clear. However, you are a slave to whatever you allow control you, the old man was a slave to sin, because he was controlled by sin. When you are independent, you are independent, I mean, you are no longer under the authority you once were. If truly, you have received freedom from sin, your flesh should in no way control you anymore. But if you again give in to the flesh, and sin against God, you are actually subjecting yourself under slavery to sin, thereby making yourself a slave to what...
