The Authority And You
Romans 13 talks in depth on how we are expected to behave with authorities because it is God who has placed them there.
Authorities are there for a reason, and as Christians, we ought to respect and obey them. When you disobey your leaders, or speak badly of them, you are actually insulting God. So, when next you want to disobey or disrespect anyone who is in a position of authority, whether Christian or not, remember it would be an insult to God's personality. You don't want to do that, do you?
However, there is a thin line here, remember Daniel, and the three Hebrew boys in Babylon? Yea, right, they knew where, when, and how to draw the line. Let's think of it this way, it is very possible that Daniel and his friends weren't the only ones that knew God in their days, but apparently, they were the only ones who stood up for God to draw the line, why? Obviously it was because they knew God and were very obedient, they feared the Lord, even right from the very beginning. Assuming some person who supposedly knows God, but defiled himself with the king's meat had stood up for God, I'm sure God would have been like "I'm sorry, do I know you?".
Therefore there is a need for God to have known you, if not, your line drawing might put you in a whole lot more trouble and possibly cost your life. When authorities demand you to be disloyal to God, or His word, you should draw the line with all due respect. If you find yourself in this kind of situation, please pray for wisdom to do what is right in the sight of the Most High God.
Besides, be sure you are in a right relationship with God, so you won't end up like the seven sons of Sceva (Acts 19:11-20). May God grant us the wisdom to live justly and rightly for Him in Jesus name.
Shalom.
