Can You Really Have that Eaten Cake?

In my previous post, with the help of the Holy Spirit, I talked about eating one's cake and at the same time still having it. I received a request asking to shed more light on the topic, which I'd be doing now.

Paul Brians, Professor of English at Washington State University, points out that perhaps a more logical or easier to understand version of this saying is, "You can’t eat your cake and have it too." Professor Brians writes that a common source of confusion about this idiom stems from the verb to have which in this case indicates that once eaten, keeping possession of the cake is no longer possible, seeing that it is in your stomach (and no longer exists as a cake) source: wikipedia.

By the law of nature, once you have eaten your cake, you cannot possess it again. I agree, but in Christ, I don't quite agree, and I'd explain. When the rich man (Matt 19:16-21) met Jesus to ask about how he could inherit eternal life, he was asked to sell all his possessions and give to the poor, and in return he'd have treasures stored up in heaven. Simply, Jesus demonstrated to him how he could have eaten his cake (or given out his cake to the poor, who would have eaten it without questions) and still had it, but because he didn't really grasp this phenomenon, he went home sad.

The bible says that we should store up our treasures in heaven, where moths or thieves cannot destroy. You can store up your treasures in heaven, by giving your cake to others who are hungry to eat, by sowing in the name of Christ, or by caring for your neighbors, obviously that is like you eating your cake. In essence, there's hardly anything you give up for God that won't give you returns. Apart from God blessing you materially, you would have eternal treasures, common, ain't that worth more than you can ever give God? Another example amongst many others is Peter (the disciple), he gave up his fishing business for Christ, by nature, he should have gone hungry, and starved to death, but he became a fisher of men, you can imagine how much fame and affluence that got him.

If you are still yet to fully grasp this phenomenom, I'd like you to ask God to let him personally teach you how you can eat your cake 'in Christ', and the same time still have it. Have a cake eating and having weekend (lol). Shalom.
