Accepting Criticism
'Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery" Proverbs 29:1 NLT.
One thing, as humans, we find very difficult to accept is criticism. We don't like to hear people call us out and have our faults and mistakes pointed at us. Well, its a completely rational reaction. Like we read above, as Christians, criticism is something we should start to accept, and stop to condemn. Really, no one knows it all, and nobody Mr or Miss perfect. In a sense, you should be grateful someone is criticizing you for something you are doing, because it means you are somebody. I school in a medical school (lol, don't mind me, I'm a basic medical student), and we work on dead bodies, believe you me, no one ever criticizes those bodies (cadaver). Not to scare you anyway, but all I'm saying is, be glad somebody noticed what you did, because once you are dead, you stop being on the notice list of others, at least not before Jesus Christ comes.
But then, even as you accept criticism, you ought to figure out that which is true about it, of course based on the word of God. You might think you are doing the right thing, when really you are doing the wrong thing. Take for example, Apostle Paul had to call out Peter in Galatians 2:11-21, where Peter was a part of hypocrisy and as a result led other Christians astray including Barnabas. Criticism in itself is good, so, we should start to take them more seriously and find out the truth in them.
On the other hand, you shouldn't lead your life based on criticism, I mean bothering always on what people would say about you. Instead, concern yourself more on what Jesus would actually say about you. And believe me, if you are more conscious of what Jesus would say, criticism wouldn't be much of an issue to you. I have searched everywhere (not literally though), but no one has ever suffered criticism as much as Jesus did, yet he never complained, nor kept malice with his critics.
In conclusion, accept criticism so you wouldn't be suddenly destroyed. Shalom.
