Please Learn To Be Kind

Today, something occurred to me, and I figured I've not been a kind person, not at all. I know I'm somehow strict, but then, I've also been unkind, which is not Jesus-like in any way.

Here's the gist, in my school, all Christian students of every particular class gather once each week for class prayers. And so, for my class, we gathered as usual today, and when the time came for sharing of testimonies, a class mate (name withheld), whom I've never seen attend the class prayer stepped out to share her testimony. Like almost everyone, I thought "oh, thank God she came today, what does she have to say now?".

Actually, this lady is quite the least you would take as serious in the class, from her mode of dressing to her manner of speech, she just appears to be, do I say lackadaisical now? Well, she's just someone I would not like to call a friend. Now to her testimony. According to her, she has been battling with a kidney infection for five solid years now, which also had affected her excretory system. She also said, that for two months in this year, she was not able to visit the loo, I mean pass out excrete, all she could do in those two months, while laying on the hospital bed, was to gas out through her mouth. Seriously? I was shocked, what shocked me more was that she also said a Preacher's kid!

So, as a result, the only way she made sure her health issues didn't bother her as much was through her 'unserious' attitude. She tried to forget her sorrows by talking, dressing, and living in a way that shouted "I don't care". Who could have thought in my class that she had such serious health issues, not even me, "Miss What Next After Meeting Jesus", we never paid attention to her.

Moral of the story is, there are many people who are around us that actually need people to care for them, but out of unkindness on our parts, we ignore them, and just conclude they aren't serious persons. It shouldn't be so, our focus should be on those who need us, and not on those who do not. Jesus said, it is only the sick people that need a physician not those who are already well.

I'm charging us now, by God, to be kind to everyone around us. You never can tell what your neighbor might be going through. Being kind is when you are kind to those who truly need you, not otherwise. "When Jesus heard this, he told them, "Healthy people don't need a doctor- sick people do." Luke 2:17 NLT. God bless us, Shalom
