5 Questions You Need To Answer Before Going On Any Date
Date: A romantic or social appointment (Oxford Dictionary). To be honest, this just concluded week has tabled matters of love and date before me, and I assume many of you guys had similar issues too. Thus, I have for us the top 5 questions we need to ask ourselves before agreeing to go on any date with anybody.
1. WHAT INFORMED THE DATE? Yea, what informed the two party to go on the date? Ok, let's make this clearer. What is the original motive or idea that is making you decide on the date? Is it love or romance? Is it God that spoke to you? Or could it be that you guys just wanna get to know each other better? Could it also be that you just want to have fun and get pleasure from it, you know, from a night cap or something? Whatever the motive is, make sure you know it before you agree on that date.
2. WITH WHOM ARE YOU GOING ON THE DATE? As commonly said, like attracts like, the Bible also said, "be not be unequally yoked with unbelievers", "what has light got to do with darkness", "how can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 2 Corinthians 6:14-15. You are a Christian, why on earth would you even wanna go on a date with an unbeliever, someone who doesn't share in your faith? You as a Christian, know that God is not in support of premarital sex (Ephesians 5:3), but the other person may see it as a no biggie, "everyone is doing it, let's do it". How then do you convince him or her about your not having sex or sharing a kiss? Sweetie, you are a child of God, don't unequally go on a date, OK?
3. IF JESUS COMES DURING THE DATE, WHERE WILL YOU END UP? Yup, if the master comes just as he has said he would to take up His saints, please sir, and ma, are you sure you ain't gonna be left behind? I think you should read that novel, "Left Behind", or better still, see the movie.
4. TO WHAT END IS THE DATE? Where is the date leading you to? To the altar, to the hotel room, to his or her bedroom? Be sincere with yourself, most times, we already know where our dates end up, we just make up excuses and act "Oh, we're just friends". Even if your date is a potential spouse, be sure you are making the right decision.
5. WHAT IS GOD SAYING? As Christians and children of God (John. 1:12), we all have the Spirit of God living in us, and He is an integral part of our lives. So His opinion must be first consulted before any other. If the Holy Spirit is asking you to go, and you are sure, and you also have a scriptural backing (1 Thessalonians 5:21), then go ahead, but if you are yet unsure, do NOT do it. In some cases, you may ask a senior person in faith (I did that), someone who is much more experienced and Spiritual than you are so to speak. (Most of the time, they advice you not to go on that date, trust me). If just going on a date with someone is giving you such a hard time to decide on it by yourself, it's probably a wrong date or a wrong timing.
"But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning." Romans. 14:23 NLT. Shalom.
