Business Minded People And Jesus; 5 Important Lessons
"Mama, I wanna be self employed, I wanna make money, do business, and also serve the Lord with all that I am."
Actually, this is the mind of many, several, and lots of Christians. Many of we Christians want to be rich and wealthy like king Solomon, yea, right? At the same time, we want to be enthusiastic for God like our dearly beloved Apostle Paul. While these two concessions may be pure and innocent, there are these five basic things we need to acquaint ourselves with. So, if the above speech is somewhere in your mind, please read on.
1. JESUS IS INTERESTED IN YOUR BUSINESS. Romans 12:11 "Not slotful in business, fervent in Spirit, serving the Lord." If I'm correct, business comes first before being fervent in this verse, which means, God desires that you are up and doing. So, you don't need to disengage God when it comes to your business, He is interested in whatever it is that your hands have found doing. Your business could be that you work as a janitor, and it could also be that you are an importer, whichever ways, Jesus is interested.
2. LEARN TO COMMITT YOUR WAYS TO GOD. Proverbs 19:21 NLT "You can make plans but the LORD'S purpose will prevail." As a business oriented Christian, your ultimate decision maker should be God, simply because you are aware that Proverbs 16:9 says we can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. And since you know that, isn't it better if you also simply let Him lead your business? Try making him your entrepreneur and you would realize how much weight and burden that He would bear for you. Save yourself of the risk of high blood pressure, let God handle it, OK? "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest" Matthew 11:28.
3. ONLY GOD CAN GIVE YOU REST. The very common attribute of business personnels is their lack of rest. You can prove me wrong though, but I tell you that even the woman whose capital isn't more than a few hundreds still lacks adequate rest. An entrepreneur thinks of the market, his competitors, advertising, marketing, profit, he takes risks, and so on. Really, only God can give rest even in the midst of all these chaos. "Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand." Isaiah 41:10 NLT.
4. JESUS IS ABLE TO ENLARGE YOU. I have never seen, and neither have I read of anyone who is able, to out of nowhere make things happen for the sake of an individual. Only Jesus has, can, and will. Have I confused you? "'Master', Simon replied, 'we worked hard all last night and didn't catch a thing. But if you say so, I'll let the nets down again.' And this time their nets were so full of fish and they began to tear!" Luke 5:5-6. I'm sure you now understand what I'm trying to say. But, mind you, Simon, let out his boat to Jesus for the sake of the Gospel first of all, and even without the thoughts of gaining or exploiting the LORD.
5. THERE COMES A TIME OF LETTING GO. "And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus." Luke 5:11. At one point, you would just have to let go of everything. You may not be happy with it, but you just sort of have no choice. You ain't gonna die with your wealth, are you? "There is still one thing you haven't done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven then come, follow me" "But when the man heard this he became very sad, for he was very rich. When Jesus saw this, he said 'How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God! In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!"
On a final note, no matter the height of your business and achievements, please always be heaven conscious. Shalom.
