The Best Family

Alright everyone, let's take this quick test. If you had the chance to choose your family before you were born, I mean your mom, dad, and siblings, who and who would you have chosen? Just try to answer honestly. For me, I'd like to still have my mom and siblings, and I'd have loved to have a last name like Zukerberg, Dangote, Gates, or Jobs, you know what I'm saying? (Disclaimer: I'm only being honest here, this doesn't mean I'm in love with money!)

So, I assume you have also answered that question faithfully, now do you really think that family you would have preferred would have been the best for you? Actually, most times, our thinking faculty doesn't go beyond our present wants, and that often makes us abandon that which is truly needful. Think of it this way, if I had been born into the Gates' family, I'm quite sure I wouldn't be running a blog centered on Jesus. Likewise you, if you had been born into that family of your choice, there's every possibility that you might not have become you.

You are you because of everything that has surrounded your birth, family, situation and all. "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations" Jeremiah 1:5 NLT. Can you take a time out this moment to appreciate God for the family in which he has placed you? You may despise your family now, but when you come to think of it, you would realize they are part of the pieces that formed you. So thank God for them.

A few years back, I was this bitter person that envied everyone whose father was what I didn't have, but today, I'm grateful because my experience has started making me give hope to the hopeless. Same applies to you, your experience should not make you a bitter and resentful person, rather, you make it an avenue to help others who may be going through what you have gone through, and thank God for Grace that saved you.

On a final note, the best family you can ever have is the family of God. That moment which you gave your life to Christ was the moment God adopted you into His family. And guess what? God is greater than the Zukerbergs, the Gates, the Dangotes, the Jobs, the Obamas, the Mandelas, He is greater than them all! So sweetie, be proud of whom you are, you are a child of God, and you bear His last name.

"So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children, now we call Him, 'Abba, Father'. For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children." Romans 8:15-16 NLT.

But then, it is not enough to bear God's last name, you should imitate Jesus, and let your ways show that you actually bear God's last name. "Those who have been born into God's family do not make a practice of sinning, because God's life is in them. So they can't keep sinning, because they are God's children." 1John 3:9 NLT.

Please do not forget your bible reading for today today. Shalom.
