Makeup, Makeoveer, and God's Word (2)
Now that we have identified the motive behind our makeup and makeover, I think we can take another step forward from here. A Christian friend of mine (male), said he would never get married to a lady who doesn't wear makeup (lol), "are you joking?"
The general idea of makeup and makeover is to improve one's appearance, so, can we also call any other thing that improves one's appearance makeover? Yes, we can. Makeover is not only restricted to the lipsticks, mascara, eyeshadow and so on, but rather, it includes all the other things that you do to improve your overall appearance.
That brings wearing a perfume, ironing your shirt, polishing your shoe, brushing your teeth, combing your hair into the picture. If you can brush your mouth to improve your appearance, then there should be no problem with you powdering your face. If you also can shave down there to improve your appearance, then you should have no problem with taking care of the eyebrow. I hope you get my point?
As a Christian lady, the truth is that, you ought to take care of your body and look good. However, moderation is the key. If you have no problem with wearing makeup and makeover, good, and if you would rather not wear them at all, even better. Whichever side you are standing on, make sure you do things that would not bring reproach to the name of our God. And also be sure that God is the one that receives the glory and not you. Here are some Bible verses that would be useful for you though.
1 Peter 3:3-4 NLT "Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourself instead with beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God."
Proverbs 11:22 NLT "A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig's snout." Proverbs 16:2 NLT "People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives.
Proverbs 31:30 NLT "Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised."
Ecclesiastes 11:9 NLT "Young people, it's wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do."
Luke 10:41 NLT "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her."
Finally, I want you as a Christian lady to choose that which is important to you, does your appearance comes first? Such that you cannot even go to your place of worship without first of all making sure that your face is well set, or do you choose your makeup bag over your Bible?
Let's be careful in everything that we do, and let God take the lead even in the place of makeup. Shalom.
