God Doesn't Tempt Anyone
"For every temptation that comes your way, you have what it takes to overcome it!" Hello everybody,
I hope we are all doing good?
"And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say 'God is tempting me.' God is never tempted to do wrong, and He never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death." James 1:13-15.
Today, I was just reflecting on those things that I have been tempted with, and I realized that the ones I yielded to were those I deliberately chose not to overcome. For example, I was observing a fast one day, and I broke the fast, not because I couldn't control the urge to stay without food, but because I just chose to let the flesh win. Another scenario is when I know fully well that I should read my Bible, but instead, I allowed sleep to win. You know what I'm saying?
Temptations do not have to come in the big way like the way Joseph was tempted by Potiphah's wife, before we stand to say "How I can do this and sin against my God?" Genesis 39:9. You have sinned whenever you choose to do what you believe is not right (Romans 14:23).
So, can we now begin to relay those things that may look insignificant, but actually have caused us to sin? For example, the rule of the examination hall says, "there should be no form of communication with anybody apart from the supervisor", yet you are tempted to ask your neighbor for something, and you go ahead to disobey that rule.
Another example is, your church requests that you should put off your phone during the service, but because of your lack of discipline, you ping all through the service.
Now let us see for ourselves, aren't these temptations that we have deliberately yielded to by our own selves? Well, we know all those things that win over us, so can we please begin to always say to those things, "How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God."
Whenever sleep, food or any other thing tempts you, boldly tell it that you cannot do such a wicked thing at that particular point in time. Really, there is time for everything, time to eat, time to sleep, time to study, time to pray, time to do business, so, don't let one time encroach the other.
In conclusion, you have what it takes to say "NO" to any temptation, if Jesus could, why can't you? Shalom
