A Dangerous Game
Last week, a friend of mine was confused about something, and I realized I've also been in that exact situation before, a good number of times even. This kind of situation is one that confuses you, yet you aren't sure what solution to proffer.
Ok, enough of the intro, let's begin.
Have you ever been taking to someone and all out nowhere, your chat history becomes what you cannot boldly show a third party? What I mean is, you are just mere friends with someone, just friends, no string attached, yet, your chats with this person has gone way beyond being 'just friends'. Do you now get what I'm talking about?
Four months ago, I became friends with someone, and we started talking and chatting. But after a little while, our conversation became more intimate than it was platonic, like the 'friendship' so to speak became something else. Below are a few signs to tell you have such a friend.
1. This person knows all of you. This your misery friend knows exactly how your day had been spent, knows if you have eaten, knows if you are sad. He or she can tell your movements per time, knows your daily schedule, yet, you're still just friends!
2. He/She is aware of your sexuality. This friend of yours knows if you are sexually active or not. He knows if you have a partner or not. He or she knows every detail about you, which may also include your family.
3.He or she is someone you don't see in your nearest future, she is only there just for the present. Moreover, you just have him or her around to keep you from being bored.
So, those are just a few tell signs that you are en route a dangerous game. But one major sign is that, you yourself can't even convince yourself that he or she is just a friend (all details testify against that statement).
What now is the solution? It is simple, define that friendship, set your boundaries, and let he/she know your stand. And what if it doesn't get better? Well then, cut off the friendship completely before it makes you sorry. I mentioned earlier I went through something like this about four months ago. To be honest, it made me sorry, please do not wait till when you are sorry before you excuse this person out of your life. "Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech." Proverbs 5:24 "There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death" Proverbs. 14:12.
Shalom
