The Beulah Choir
I saw a very old movie yesterday, title is 'fighting temptation', a black American movie. Seeing the movie made me realize some new things. There was a choir, the Beulah Choir. It consisted of the old, the young, the 'saints', the 'sinners', the prisoners, the harlots, the drinkers, and they were all led by a liar and gold digger. But of course, there was a member of the church who stood out to condemn such a distasteful congregation of choir. I mean she was up and against having sinners in the choir.
Initially, I felt the woman should be ignored as she was taking the matter too personally. Well, you know movies, it had all that happy ending and stuff. What bothered me was, what next after the happy ending? Did the sinners in the choir still continued to be sinners or did they repent and were changed for good or not?
Actually, that is the situation of our churches this day, we have new members that come in just the way they are, and we accept them for whom they are, fine. However, if after a year these people are still what they used to be, then we have a problem, Romans 6:1-2. Yea right, Jesus associated with sinners, dined with them but, their lives changed after they met Jesus (Matthew 19:1-9). Should we remain what we used to be and continue in our sins all because we say the church is not for perfect people. While I agree the church is not for perfect people, the Bible says we should be perfect even as our Father in Heaven is perfect, Matthew 5:48.
Apparently, there is a need for change in the lives of the sinners in the church. The church welcomes sinners, but it becomes a sin, if those sinners continued to be sinners. It simply means that they haven't had any encounter with Christ, and it obviously shows that Christ doesn't attend that church.
Romans 8:1 "So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death" NLT.
As the Church, what have we been doing to bring the sinners in the church to Christ? We all have roles to play, as the LORD has made us tenders of His vineyard, 1 Corinthians 3:6-9. Not that we should start condemning, no, we should pray, and teach them the truth of the Word of God.
Besides, we also should lead exemplary lives, not just to outwardly express our dissatisfaction, and in our closet do the exact opposite, Ephesians 5:1.
"Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness...2Tim3:16" Shalom.
