What Is Your Mouth Speaking?
Out of the abundant of the heart, the mouth speaketh (Luke 6:45). Actually, for so many of us like me who are very extroverted, this is an issue. A Book of the Bible I read that chastises me every time I read it is the Book of James. No matter how frequently I read James, I feel so disappointed at how poorly I have my tongue controlled.
Now the Bible says that what you have in your heart is most likely what you speak. For me, I tried so much at will to restrain myself from talking unnecessarily, but on the long run, I realized it is the heart that needs to be restrained. Jesus said that it is not what goes into a man that defiles him, but rather what comes out of him (Matthew 15:11).
I'm asking you now, what kind of thing do you have in abundance in your heart? If you harbor pride within, there's every tendency that your mouth would speak pride. If what you harbor in your heart is lust, pursuit of wealth, fame and stuff, the exact thing you speak is gonna be related to those things. So, don't be surprised if someone is always talking about God or the Bible in any conversation, it is because God has the bulk of his heart.
Whatever has the bulk of your heart is what you are most likely gonna bring up in any conversation. So, what is that thing taking the bulk of your heart? To be honest with you, for me, what comes up in most of the lengthy conversations I have with people is money matter. Money just finds it way into my mouth, and after I've said my piece, I feel, "Oh, I shouldn't have said that", but I said it anyway.
Apostle Paul said in Romans 12:2 NLT 'Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect'. Our mind and heart should be aligned with Christ such that our conversation becomes a blessing to others. Our tongue shouldn't be our weak point, remember your adversary the devil is going about seeking whom to devour (1Peter. 5:8).
For those of us who are presently in this condition, the Holy Spirit implores us to repent and confess this sin to God, and to also ask Him for the grace to make Him have the bulk of our hearts. Amen. Shalom.
