Things You Should Watch Out For This Valentine
Valentine is the season of love, it is a time to share, a time to give and to receive. Valentine may not be in the Bible literally, I tell you Jesus already set us an example by showing us how to love.
1 Peter 2:24 NLT "He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wound you are healed."
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
Valentine is not all about lovers or those who are in romantic relationships, as widely misconceived (Confirmed through wikipedia). Valentine is when you give to the needy, when you make someone smile by meeting their needs. However, there has been a widespread Valentine's Day misconception, and below are a few things you should watch out for this Valentine:
1. VALENTINE is Not the Time for Sexual Arousal and Immorality: First of all, you are a christian, and sexual immorality ought to have ceased in your life. As Christians in this world we are, we often feel left out in the fun and the gyration especially during Valentine, well, we are not ignorant of the devices of the devil (2 Corinthians 2:11). Some people may tell you "it's only for one night, lighten up! Its Valentine". Please ensure you don't give in to the vices of the enemy, Valentine is not about the romanticism.
Moreover, valentine is not a time to start feeling nostalgic and wishing for an imaginary "lover" that you would take or would take you on a romantic date. Valentine is not about going on romantic dates, please get that straight, and don't be pressured into having to go on a romantic date on Valentine's day.
2. Valentine is Not When You Empty Your Pockets For The Wrong Reasons: This might sound a little funny, but the reality is, most people do so for Valentine's sake. I am not saying you shouldn't give your widow's might to the needy, no. What I'm saying is you shouldn't empty your bank account all for the wrong reasons.
During my high school days, I wasn't one of the girls that got Valentine gifts from guys, lol, I was far too "not their type". At the same time, I had colleagues who would get cakes, cards, flowers, chocolates, earrings, and so on. Those guys who bought them those things were our age mates too, and we all received about the same allowances from our parents, but they decided to empty their pockets to prove nothing! Yes, they proved nothing. Please do not empty your pockets to prove N-O-T-H-I-N-G this Valentine.
3. Valentine is Not The time To Lose One's Virginity: Yup, you read that right. If you grew up in an environment like mine, you would totally understand what I'm talking about. So many girls have lost their virginity during Valentine due to sheer ignorance. Some guy once told me, "if you really love me, prove it by letting me into you on Valentine's day" Really? So many girls and ladies have fallen prey to that statement, you sure don't want to be part of them, do you?
And if mistakenly, you have once fallen into that mistake, God is ready to forgive you, just tell Him how sorry you are, and that you want Him to have His mercy on you. Remain in Christ, and he would help you to stay clear of sexual sin. It wouldn't be a mistake anymore if you still go ahead this Valentine to "let him into you" or "go into her".
These are just a few things, of course there are more, but more importantly, I would advice that you try to read the history of Valentine so you wouldn't be misled by your ignorance. So, as you prepare for this year's Valentine, make sure you do not yield to the desires of the natural man, instead, do things to please our Father who art in Heaven.
Romans 6:13 NLT "Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourself completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your WHOLE body as an instruments to do what is right for the glory of God."
God bless you, Shalom.
