Nightmare of the Embalming Room
"I need air! I cannot stand this place".....
It was in the embalming room.....
We were there as part of our course requirement, to learn how to embalm, or at least become familiar with the embalming instruments before the practical examination. A tour by the lab instructor that started off well became a nightmare when we got into the embalming room.
As we entered the room, some of my colleagues and I, dashed back out, lol, the smell that greeted us was so gross. But then, what got me thinking was the reason why we couldn't stand the odour of the room, because at least, we have been working on cadavers since our second year of medical studies. We are in a way, already used to the smell and gory sights in the gross anatomy lab.
So why then did the embalming room itself offset us? After thinking for a while, I got an answer. It's simply because the smell was way more than what we had previously been exposed to. It's like taking someone who has been used to taking his bath in a bathtub to an ocean, you get the analogy?
Although some tough guys in class were able to stand the whole thing, we the "weaker" ones ran out gasping for fresh air, not minding the lessons we were missing in there anyways, (fresh air is more important, I guess).
***End of story***
Now, what next after meeting Jesus? Are you just the conventional Christian who only goes to church, gives offering and tithe, and that's all? Don't you it's time to go into the inner courtyard of the Lord and remain there? Maybe it's time for you to move from only getting your daily bread from the Lord to becoming a carrier of His holy presence.
For some of us whom God has given the Grace to feel His presence, how often do we still feel that divine presence? Do you feel God so heavily on you and all you can do is to get scared and run back to being just a church going Christian? No, you shouldn't do that. God is saying "Come unto me, and learn of me". He is asking you to bear more of him, "Draw near unto me and I will draw near to you" James 4:8 And how can you draw near unto God?
1. By actually sitting down, casting all those things that wear you down on him, and waiting to hear Him speak to you. Matthew 11:28-30.
2. By always allowing the Holy Spirit win in every area of your life. John 16:13
3. And finally, by loving the LORD with all your heart. "If you love me, keep my commands" John 14:15
NB: I've been on exam mode lately, please pardon my absence. Shalom.
