Big Lie; Small Lie...
"For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the LORD: work as children of light:" Ephesians 5:8 KJV.
Seriously, "when was the last time you told a lie?" Or better put, "when was the last time you told the truth?" I know, you are born again, (I mean no insult), but then, what is up with those quick get-a-way lies you tell? It is very easy to let a lie slip out of your mouth, and if not cautioned on time, you are at the risk of always telling lies.
I discovered some Christians are of the school of thought that says, it is not possible to lead lifetime without telling a little lie here and there. Really?
Let's assume you love the LORD and you keep His commands. Now when was the last time you slept with a woman who isn't your wife? Or when was the last night you shoplifted (stole) at the mall? You probably have never done those things (at least after meeting Jesus).
Let's be reasonable here, you know the last thing you would ever do is steal in a mall, how come telling a lie is the opposite? The thing is, that same grace that has helped you overcome sexual immorality is the same grace that would help you overcome telling of lies. I believe the problem with majority of us is that, we trivialize lying, such that we do not even regard it as "serious sin".
My dear, all sins are the same. In fact, if there be any sin that would prevent you from getting to the LORD, it is lying! Psalm 15:1-2 "LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart."
To quit lying, you have to take conscious steps that would save you from even having thoughts about lying.
1. Understand that lying is as serious to God as stealing, killing, and what sin have you. With this consciousness of this fact, I'm sure, that at the mere thought of lying, you would be cautioned to stop.
2. One lie leads to billions of lies. Yeah! Lying involves a positive feedback mechanism, whereby, telling of a lie leads to the production of more and more of lies. Don't even tell one.
3. Finally, if you are in the habit of always mincing the truth, you need to admit it to God. Come clean and let Him know you are truly sorry, and would want to stop the habit (Proverbs 23:8). And what do you think? Surely, He would help you out, after all, He helped you to live above your previous sins (masturbation, porn, evil deeds etc).
Romans 6:12 "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 14. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."
(Long time, no see:) ). Shalom.
