God, the Hire Assassin? Or God the Saviour?

I was at a fellowship program where the prayer leader asked us, the congregation, to pray death by fire, hail, and brimstone, against those people who do not want us to succeed in life.

These past few months, I have been very analytical about some kind of prayer points. For example, when I hear someone ask me to start to pray against  someone in my father's lineage who doesn't want me to prosper, I get wary of such prayer points.

I stand to be corrected though, but I'm of the school of the Bible that says I am hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). According to the Bible, I also know that I wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, and spiritual wickedness in high places. In other words, the devil and his cohorts (Ephesians 6:12).

The devil is my enemy, not man. Let's see it this way. Judas betrayed Jesus and he seemed like the enemy. But Judas wasn't the real enemy, the devil was. If Jesus had prayed for Judas to die, I am a 100% sure that the devil would have recruited another disciple in Judas's stead. Jesus would still have been betrayed anyway. Luke 22

Another example is when Peter, the disciple, appeared like the enemy to Jesus. I expected Jesus to say "You Peter, enemy of progress, fall down and die. Holy Ghost fire destroy you from generation to generation!". But no. Jesus said instead, "But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Satan!" he said. "You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns." (Mark 8:33) NIV.

Jesus addressed the devil who spoke through Peter, and not Peter per say.

So you see, that boss or lecturer frustrating you isn't the one whom you should pray against. It is the devil. Rebuke the devil working in that person. This is because if you pray for him or her to die, the devil will yet raise another man against you. You will pray for that one to die also, the devil will raise again someone else, and the cycle will go unending. I ask you, how many men do you want God to kill for only you? I'm sorry, God is not an assassin.

Read your Bible and pray everyday if you want to grow. Stay away from sin, and you would not even have time to hate on your enemies, let alone send death to them. Fear is the major reason why most "Christians" pray for others to die.

Hide yourself with Christ today (Colossians 3:3)
Shalom.
